Q4 2020 UK Dining & Restaurants App Performance

As the year 2020 wrapped up, the dining and restaurant app sector in the United Kingdom saw varying trends in user engagement and app downloads. Here's a snapshot of how the top five apps performed, with data sourced from Sensor Tower.

The McDonald’s U.K. app saw a significant spike in downloads in late October, reaching nearly 200 thousand, before gradually declining to around 70 thousand by the end of December. The app's weekly active users peaked at over 800 thousand in late October and maintained a steady user base, ending the year with over 700 thousand active users.

Subway® - Official App had a remarkable download surge in mid-October with over 100 thousand downloads, but this trend sharply declined, stabilizing at around 20 thousand downloads by December. The app's active users mirrored this pattern, with a peak of over 100 thousand in mid-October and a fall to just over 50 thousand by the end of the quarter.

Wetherspoon started the quarter with a strong download count of over 100 thousand, which gradually decreased to under 10 thousand by December. The weekly active users followed a similar downward trajectory, from over 300 thousand at the start of the quarter to around 150 thousand by its close.

The KFC App UKI - Order & Delivery experienced a notable peak in downloads in early November with over 60 thousand downloads, before leveling off to around 40 thousand by the year's end. Weekly active users reached over 300 thousand in early November, and despite some fluctuation, ended the quarter with a slightly lower figure of over 270 thousand.

Lastly, Greene King saw its downloads decrease from 80 thousand at the start of the quarter to below 10 thousand by December. The app's active users showed a decrease from 150 thousand in September to just over 50 thousand by the end of December.
